Lorekeeper Digital Wip

I am learning to paint and draw digitally, it's slow going because there are so few tutorials for beginners and Photoshop is so complicated to figure out. Enough of the complaints! I drew this a while ago...

It's a quick character sketch for a book I'm writing. Lorekeepers are beings of no particular race or sex, they appear to you in a form you are comfortable with and then give you your destiny in the shape of a small glowing blue orb.

I have been trying to paint it digitally for a while now, sometimes I get close but not far enough and sometimes I mess up completely. Well, I think I'm almost there... I finally figured out enough about Layer Masks to be able to paint it the way I wanted, and I was messing around with some effects and got a really good fabric print (well, I think it's really good). The only problem I currently have is trying to shade the hood... I'm still working on that!

I still have work to do, I need to get more details in the face, and try to get back some of the fabric pattern I have lost from the shading, luckily they are on different layers!

Full Frontal Lobe

I wanted to show everyone my contribution to Full Frontal Lobe, well, one of my contributions. I wrote a short story which can be read on my tumbler page http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/clairemcarter It's called Verne's Rise and is about an Airship captain who finally finds the reason she needed to stand up and fight an evil tyrant. I also made an illustration, where my story was written in a serious tone, my illustration was not.
It is called Inner Workings of a Raygun.

Hello and Welcome

Hello and welcome to my art blog. I am starting this blog as I have just finished a project with some friends and become published and I am going back to college in September, so this will be the perfect place for me to showcase my work and development.

Firstly to the publication!

This is Full Frontal Lobe, a collection of art and prose. My contributions are a short story called 'Verne's Rise' about an airship captain and a single page picture called 'Inner Workings of a Raygun'. As for college updates, I will be starting a 1 year Art and Design course at City of Bristol College which I hope will lead to university the year after. It is my wish to become a full time artist and I am ready to begin the rough road that leads to that goal. I am definately going to be living in interesting times.
